Importance of Absenteeism and Values taught
Increasing productivity level continues to be the main focus for Fiji Ports Corporation Limited.
And in its quest to achieve this, a two-day workshop was organised in Suva and Lautoka in September focusing on reducing absenteeism in the workplace which is found to be a main contributor to reduced productivity levels.
The Absenteeism and Value workshop on was facilitated by Mr Mayur Kalbag from the training panel of the Confederation of Indian Industry who was in the country conducting similar trainings at various organisations.
Human Services Capital Officer Anare Leweniqila said employees needed to know that being away from work has many effects not only to the company but also the other employees.
“The consequences for this include reduced productivity levels, high administration costs, understaffing which could lead to poor customer service and poor morale among colleagues. This will be particularly prevalent if employees constantly have to fill in for absent staff and if they don’t see any retributions for absence,” Mr Leweniqila said.
Mr Mayur also conducted customer service training as FPCL focuses on improving its services to the customers and stakeholders.
Similar trainings were conducted for the staff based at the Port of Lautoka.
