Sea Ports Management Regulation

Pilot Boats for Fiji

FPCL is building two new, modern, high speed pilot boats similar in design to the one in the picture. The boats will be owned and operated by Fiji Ports and will replace older vessels which are contracted from a private company.

Wairiki Port

A dedicated Port for wood chips is currently being built and FPCL under its Seaports Management Act will declare Wairiki Port as the fifth Port of Entry for Fiji allowing our key customers Tropik Woods and Fiji Pine easy access facilities for their operations for global trading.

Lautoka Queens Wharf Rehabilitation

Works commenced on this project in August 2006 costing $8million to add 'life' to the wharf structure.

Extension of Lautoka Wharf

A $52 million investment into FPCL’s infrastructure was completed in May 2005 on the extension of Lautoka Wharf from 150meters to 300 meters; and the Rehabilitation and upgrading of Suva Wharf.

Mobile Harbour Cranes

$20 million investment was made for the purchase of three Gotwald Mobile Harbour Cranes takes Fiji’s Port operations into a new technical era with faster turnaround times resulting in reduced waiting periods and ship lay-up times as well as lower operating costs. The attraction of inviting gearless vessels to call into Fiji is now is a reality.

CCTV

CCTV investment to upgrade security and safety aspects for Port of Suva and Port of Lautoka was completed October 2006 at a cost of $300,000

Reclamation projects

Reclamation of 28 acres of land area around Port of Lautoka has recently been completed at a cost of $9 million in May 2007, providing FPCL with critical land poised for future development inline with its strategic plan.

IT

Upgrade and enhancement of the Port operations software in March 2007 resulted in FPCL’s container layout available electronically to its Port Control. All containers movements into and ex the Port is controlled by Port Control and viewed via a 72” screen allowing control officers to direct traffic, yard operators, forklift drivers into a cohesive logistical operation.

 

Fiji Ports Corporation Limited has 5 ports of entry this includes the main ports, Suva & Lautoka and other smaller ports, Levuka, Malau & Wairiki (Yet to be declared)
Ports Terminal Limited is a fully owned subsidry of Fiji Ports Corporation Limited. It provides cargo handling/Stevedoring services for the main Ports of Suva & Lautoka. FPCL is responsible for infrastructure developments and administration.
